Business Planning

AIBS strongly believes that Aboriginal organisations should function as small business enterprises. In this way sound financial and management practices are essential if the organisation is to become sustainable particularly in the delivery of relevant and necessary health care.

Sound and informed business planning decisions can make the difference between an organisation providing an adequate service and maintaining the status quo to the organisation providing coordinated, viable and effective service resulting in increased outcomes and having a genuine impact within their community, sector or even industry.

Financial capacity provides organisations with the negotiation power to attract expertise and skills that would not otherwise be available. Aboriginal organisations must be just as competitive or more so to gain these expertise as their responsibility is twenty times greater that other similar non-Indigenous organisations.

To gain this financial capacity organisations must undertake business planning and map the way they intend to do business in the short and long term. This business map must contain realistic objectives and identify realistic and viable pathways for increasing their organisations capability. If this map is followed the organisation will reach its destination successfully and within the intended timeframe.
